Three Ways to Start Organising Your Family's Records
Whether you need a short introduction, a half-day workshop, or a full heritage documentation programme, Legacyloom has a session designed for where your family is right now.
โ Back to HomeOur Approach
How Legacyloom Works
Every Legacyloom session begins with a conversation โ by phone or in person โ about what the family is starting with and what they would like to end up with. From that conversation, we recommend a starting point: the reading session, the workshop, or the documentation programme.
For the workshop and reading session, preparation is simple: bring whatever you have. There is no need to sort documents beforehand. For the documentation programme, we arrange the first home visit at a time that suits the family.
All sessions follow a documented procedure. Materials are handled consistently, and the output โ an inventory, a bound record, or a printed reading card โ is produced to a standard format so that it remains legible and useful over time.
After every programme, we invite feedback. This is not a courtesy: we use it to improve our procedures and materials on an ongoing basis.
Session 01
Family Records Inventory Workshop
RM 640 ยท Half-day
A half-day workshop for families who would like to put the records of an older generation into a single, ordered system. Participants bring documents โ household papers, photographs, written letters, personal identification documents โ and the facilitator helps with sorting, labelling, and writing a typed inventory sheet that names where each document is held.
The workshop is administrative and organisational. We do not interpret the documents and we do not provide advice on what they mean in any regulated sense.
What Is Included
- Facilitated sorting of all materials brought to the session
- Labelling in a consistent, readable format
- Typed inventory sheet โ one copy printed, one digital copy emailed
- All original materials returned at end of session
How the Session Runs
- 01Brief intake โ facilitator notes what materials are present and explains the sorting method
- 02Sorting by category โ documents, photographs, letters, certificates, and miscellaneous items are separated
- 03Labelling โ each item or bundle receives a written label
- 04Inventory completion โ facilitator types and prints the final inventory sheet
- 05Hand-back โ all materials returned; family keeps inventory
Session 02
Family Heritage Documentation
RM 3,850 ยท Multi-appointment programme
A documentation programme for households that would like to create a written family-heritage record โ a typed account of a family's places of origin, the working lives of older relatives, the names and dates that appear in the documents, and a small album of photographs. The work is carried out across two or three appointments at the family's home.
The programme is descriptive and educational. We do not address inheritance arrangements or any matter requiring regulated qualifications.
What Is Included
- Two to three home visits within Greater KL
- Facilitator interviews with willing family members
- Photographs of selected family documents and objects
- Printed, bound heritage record โ typically 20โ40 pages
- Digital copy of the completed record emailed to family
Programme Timeline
- 01Introductory call โ establish scope, number of family members to interview, materials to photograph
- 02First home visit โ interview session; facilitator takes notes and photographs
- 03Second visit (if needed) โ follow-up interviews; review of any additional materials
- 04Draft preparation โ facilitator writes and formats the heritage record
- 05Delivery โ printed bound record delivered; family reviews and approves
Session 03
Heritage Reading Session
RM 280 ยท Single session
A short, calm session for adults who would like a plain-English introduction to the general structure of family-records management โ what kinds of documents tend to exist in a family, how they are typically organised, and how a written inventory can be useful. A printed reading card is included.
The session is built from publicly available adult-education materials and is descriptive only. We do not advise on the content of any particular family's documents and we do not address any regulated matter.
What Is Included
- One-to-one or small group session (up to four people)
- Overview of common Malaysian family document types
- Introduction to document categorisation and inventory writing
- Printed reading card for future reference
What the Session Covers
- 01Common document types in Malaysian family archives โ what they typically are and where they come from
- 02Basic organisation approaches โ categories, labelling, and storage
- 03What a written inventory looks like and why it is useful
- 04Questions from participants โ answered in general terms
